The Three Arms of Government

The Kenyan Constitution identifies three arms of Government i.e the Executive, the Parliament and the Judiciary.

The Executive
The Executive Authority of the Government is vested in the President. The President chooses no more than 22 Cabinet Secretaries to run the Government. The National Assembly must approve the President's nominees for the Cabinet Secretaries before they are appointed.

The Parliament
The Parliament consists of the National Assembly and the Senate.

The Judiciary
The Judiciary is divided into Superior Courts and Subordinate Courts. The Superior Courts are: the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the High Court. The Supreme Court is the highest court in Kenya. The Subordinate Courts are: the Magistrates Courts, the Kadhi Courts, the Courts Martial and the Tribunals.
